Be a Woman…and Know What That Means

My dearest girls,

My new job is about three months old and I’m at it, again.  It never fails.  When you put yourself in positions to lead, you have to assume you are going to get criticized.  Regardless of the decisions you make and their intentions, you will never please everybody.

But this reminded me of something that I really want for you to learn…

You have to know what it means to be a woman.  There are certain things that are going to come along with it.  You are going to have to fight harder, work longer, and do more than your male counterparts.  Sorry, I don’t know why…but that is just how it is.  But you learn to fight…and fight like hell.

Society has so many wrongs.  Because you are a woman, you are viewed as objects of sex and not equal to males.  If you want to learn to viewed as strong and fierce, you are going to have to be intentional about everything that you do and what you stand for.

Make sure you understand the music you listen to and what it is saying.  Phrases like bitch, slut, and whores are words that belittle women.  Don’t celebrate those terms…don’t use those terms…and don’t keep company that uses those terms.  You do not have to be viewed as a sexual object….if you don’t put up with things that will put you in that light.

It kinda goes back to how you dress.  If you dress all sexy, men will say you are dressed for sex.  Is it right?  Heck no!  How you dress, though, should say something about the level of class you have as an individual.  Walking around in wife beater t-shirts like some guys do or in booty shorts like some girls do….well, that just doesn’t send a message of class.

Finally, the decisions that you make will determine how you are viewed.  If you walk around singing lyrics to songs that belittle women, you are going to be viewed as inferior.  If you walk around and sing lyrics that promote drug use, you are going to be viewed as a druggie.  Is it right? No.  Is it how life is?  Yes.  But your reputation is one of the best things you have and you have to fight hard to keep it solid.  To do this, it is going to take bravery and courage.  All of your decisions will…but those decisions will reflect your character.

Reputation and character will carry you further than just about anything in life.  Work hard to earn good one and fight valiantly to keep both.  It might not be easy, but doing what you think is right will never be easy.

But it will be worth it….

I love you.

Dad
