Christmas 2016

Wow, the time has flown this Christmas season.  It seems like yesterday we were celebrating Avaleigh’s birthday in September.  Since then, it feels like we have been on an express train heading towards the holidays.

But what a ride is has been….

We have watched Christmas movies (Polar Express, Santa Claus, Elf on a Shelf, and Frosty the Snowman are a few of your favorites), listened to Christmas music (Avaleigh is singing Frosty and Santa Claus is coming to town and Lindley is singing everything and nothing at the same time….it is so cute), and both of you are amazed by the tree and all of the ornaments on there.  Well, I say on there….yall keep taking them down and driving us crazy.

We had a great Thanksgiving, we have been to Santa’s Northpole three times, and been Christmas shopping twice as many times as that.  Your toys have been put together, the food is almost ready to be cooked, and here we are….

Lindley’s second Christmas and Avaleigh’s forth.  Lindley, you almost know what is going on, but not quite.  Avaleigh, you know that Santa is coming…but really don’t know when or what.  You know toys or coming, but you haven’t been able to tell us exactly what you want.  In terms of milestones, Lindley tries to say so many words, but they just aren’t clear, yet.  Avaleigh’s speech is coming along and we used the potty twice today. Along with that, you just about feed yourself all of the time, now.

The next few days are goign to be a blur, but it will be fun.  Tomorrow night, Avaleigh is goign to Starry Night with Gigi.  Paw flies in around 9:00 p.m.  Thursday, Uncle D is coming home and we are all goign to go to a movie, I hope.  Friday, Dec. 23rd is when we ar celebrating the Wright’s Christmas Eve.  I hope Nanny feels like coming. She just got out of the nursing home with a broken arm.

The “real” Christmas Eve will be spent at Nana’s house in the morning and Aunt Mindy’s Christmas Eve night.  It will be a blast.  After that, we will come home, back some cookies, throw out some reindeer food, and watch Santa on the TV to see where he is at and try to be to sleep before he gets here.  Here’s to hoping that is early…well, earlier than tonight.  it is 10:45 and Avaleigh is sitting here watching me type this while watching Toy Story That Time Forgot.  Christmas morning will be spent with Nana, Paw, Uncle D, Mom, and one hell of a breakfast.

These truly are the best days of the year.  Not because of presents, but because of all of the family time that surrounds it.  Most importantly, the reason our family is able to be together.

But as you get older, I hope you take time to learn about the story of Christmas and the majesty of the manger.  There is so much symbolism that surrounds the birth of Jesus.

The manger, a trough, was nasty and dirty.  It definitely isn’t what you think would be worthy of a King.  But as people, we are fallen.  We sin.  We aren’t worthy of a perfect savior.  But like that manger, Jesus was brought to us.  He wasn’t worried about the imperfections, the sin, or even his death.  He was brought to us because we needed someone to carry that sin for us so that we might be f

(Stop right here….for clarity, I had to pick up 1 week and 1 day later.  As I was typing this…Avaleigh, you got sick….then we all got sick.  Avaleigh was worse, then Lindley, then Avaleigh with a 104 fever, then Lindley with an ear infection…some Christmas, huh?)
