The 2017 Holiday Season

My dearest girls,

We have entered your Dad’s (and Mom’s) favorite time of year.  We are two days away from Halloween and that will be quickly followed by Thanksgiving and Christmas.  There will be so much for us to do in the coming two months!  Last weekend, we went to a pumpkin patch and a corn maze called Pumpkin Hallow.  It was so cool!  They had a tractor pulling a trailer and Lindley kept saying, “I want to ride the train!”  LOL. Close, but not quite.  Today, we are heading to Bass Pro Shops in Memphis to go see the Peanuts gang.  I’m not sure how this will go over, but I bet you like it.

(On a side note….yall are going to be Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc.  Funny thing is that Lindley is going to be Mike and Avaleigh is going to be Sully…makes sense, right?  Avaleigh is taller, just like Sully and vice versa…but no, y’all want it the other way.  We will see how this goes!)

The coming weeks will include pictures with Santa, a ride on the Polar Express, Christmas Tree, Christmas Lights, and so many other things.  It will be so much fun…

But here is the thing…..

We do this almost every weekend.  Well, we don’t go do all the gimmicky stuff that we will be doing related to holidays.  But each weekend, we go out as a family.  Do you know why?

Your Mom.

Girls, your Mom and I fight like cats and dogs.  There are times we are as opposite as day and night.  When I go buy groceries, I usually buy groceries for a month.  Your Mom…a week.  When I go buy something, I make a list and that is what I get.  Your Mom…she wonders about and just looks around.  FOR HOURS….hehehehe.  I could make a list….ok, I will.

Me/Her

Likes outside/not so much

Likes Chinese food/not at all

Likes yard work/she is allergic to it

Likes hunting/thinks it is stupid

Likes to read/likes to look at pictures (hehehe)

I could go on and on and on, but I won’t.  Here is the point that I am trying to make.  Your Mom always makes sure that on the weekend, we have family time.  No other option.  We always go to Jonesboro, do some shopping, and eat as a family. I never really thought about it until yesterday, but I am convinced that is why she does it.

Your Mom is good as gold.  She has the best heart of anyone I know.  She will do and do and do for us until she literally can’t do anymore.  She hardly ever rests.  When she gets home from work, she will work on us until it is time for her to go to bed.  She has such a good heart and she sacrifices so much for us.

When you grow up, remember that love is about sacrifice.  Love is feeling, but it is hard to put into words.  However, you can always examine the actions of a person to see if they love someone.

Where there is love, there is sacrifice.

I need to do a better job of making sure that sacrifice isn’t a one way street.  You have to give more than you get.  Always remember that.

I love your Mom with all of my heart and soul.  She makes life better for us.  One day, you are going to grow up and go through the teenager years.  You will fight with, cuss at (I better not hear it), and cry out at your Mom.  When that happens, she will still be washing your clothes, cooking your supper, getting you out of bed, making sure that you have things.  Kids says that is a parent’s job…well, not all parents do it.

Make sure in the relationships that matter, that you pay the price…that you sacrifice.

I love you yesterday, today, and tomorrow,

Dad
