Girls
A few months ago, I was watching the news when a story came on that talked about a virus that was going around in Wuhan, China. For some reason, it caught my eye. The story continued and there was more news about how overcrowded their hospitals were. Soon thereafter, the story shifted to this town taking 7 days (SEVEN DAYS) to try and build a new hospital because things were getting so bad.
The whole time, I was captivated.
It showed up in America in late January in Seattle. While the number of cases stayed small, I knew that this virus had to be spreading like a wildfire.
Soon, it exploded. We went from 5 to 50 to 100 to 500 to 1000. It just kept going up….it just keeps going up. Nobody knows it will end. To be honest, I don’t think the end is anywhere in sight. Until people start taking this serious, we are in trouble.
For the past month and a half, my mind has been everywhere but here. The news consumed me…so much so that I feel like I didn’t do many things I was capable of doing because I was worried about the future so much.
Here is what I have learned….be where you are. This week, I’m home with both of you. I will be present in this moment. Tonight, we have school work to do. I’m going to be present in that moment with you.
Last week, our district fed kid who might not eat other wise. There was so much going on around the world that we could have been easily distracted. When we made sure kids had food, that is being where you are.
We are in a global pandemic. There is so much that is going on around us. However, I’m in Marked Tree. I have to make a difference here. I must be present in this moment and do what we are called to do…which is help others.
Being where you are isn’t about you. Be where you are is about being present in moments with others. Right now, the world needs people who will do something…..wherever they are. I’m here….and I will make a difference here.
When you get caught dreaming, remember that your dreams are made by being where you are. What does it take in that moment of “being present” to get where you want to be.
I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know how this plays out. However, tonight….I will follow the motto of “be where you are.”
With you….tonight, I just want to be with you.
I love you, girls. More than you will ever know…
