Wow, girls! I can’t believe I didn’t write you a single letter during the Ber’s season of 2020. Things have been so busy. Being a school superintendent in the middle of a pandemic has been quite the challenge.
September was fun, but not as fun as usual. We couldn’t get out and do too much. We tried to make the best of it. We had a movie night and a fire. The cool weather arrived much sooner than it usually does, which I welcome.
October got off to a great start! We always make a big event out of getting costumes, but this year kinda got us. IT RAINED! However, we got up early and went. We tried to avoid the crowds due to the pandemic. This trip was a great success! October was as much fun as it ever was. We had movie nights, cooked out, made treats…it was magical. Halloween was the same usual. On Halloween, we don’t get to do a lot of trick or treating because there are so many people who want to see you. If you only knew how loved you were.
November….well, things went haywire.
We had a close family friend who lost their mother. The three of us went to see them November 5th. On November 7th, someone in their family tested positive for COVID and we had to quarantine. We rocked right along until November 17th when I tested positive for the virus. I had a slight headache on November 15th, a itchy throat on the 16th, and started running fever at 2:00 a.m. on the morning of the 17th. I knew I had it. Immediately, I got in the car and drove to the hospital to get a test. When they told me I was positive, it scared the crap out of me. I knew, though, at that point, it was out of my hands and in God’s hands. Two days later, everyone else (both of you and Mom) started showing symptoms. On November 20th, the three of you tested positive. This meant we would have to quarantine on Thanksgiving and my birthday.
However, we all did fine. Lindley, you were so funny. You got mad because you couldn’t taste your McDonalds cheeseburger and french fries. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard in all of my life. Avaleigh, you never showed a symptom. November 30th was the day we got out of isolation and everyone went back to school!
The bad news is that we got COVID…but the good news is that we had antibodies and got to have, for all intents and purposes, a normal Christmas. It was magical. I love Christmas…always have. However, I really love Christmas with the three of you. Santa Claus was good to both of you. Trixie was the same mischievous elf. I think you girls were in love with the magic of Christmas. I hope so, at least. I love Christmas so much and I want you to love it, also.
Now, we sit here on December 27th. A vaccine has been created and we are hoping that we will get it soon. Your Mom will get it before me because she is in the health care field. I will probably be getting it in the next two months. I’m hoping we are close to the end….
I love you.
